Philanthropy

We raised nearly one million dollars for Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital between 2003 and 2007 with help from Keith Urban and our “Max It Out” charity events held in honor of my son, Max Alan Royka. Max was born healthy, but at 6 weeks of age contracted bacterial meningitis, which left Max with brain damage and many extreme disabilities/special needs. Although my boy is not here by my side anymore, I will find another path that would make him proud and help other families that are facing similar challenges as we had. We are proud to have furthered research in the area of meningitis, and now it is time to help families more directly. Tucker’s House is an organization close to my heart now.

Max’s memorial was held on June 1, 2013 on what would have been his 13th birthday. To honor him, I have posted his eulogy below.

We have never asked for money from anyone though nobody could argue that we were always in great need. Families like ours always are. That said, it is a personal dream of ours to create something one of a kind in Max’s image and have that commissioned for display at a local park area. Forever a symbol of what he taught so many and a place to pay respects but also appreciate universal beauty in life and overcoming. If whoever took the time to read this far, I personally thank you from the bottom of my heart. If you are so moved as to  consider sending a donation, we would humbly accept as it will take many years to see this dream through. There is an account established and checks can be made out to:
